There are too many reasons for being homeless to paint the issue with one brush. Homeless druggies and alcoholics need to be treated with tough love. I recall folksinger Mary Gauthier crediting a Salinas judge for saving her from herself. He gave her a choice between serious rehab and serious jail time. For everyone else, we need rescue accommodations for people who suddenly find themselves homeless. Rescue accommodations that protects them from the drug related homeless. Yet another subset of homeless are the mentally ill, also in need of a different solution.

@Heartlander All of that notwithstanding, if the system found a way to make money off of getting the homeless people off the streets, just like they've found a way to make money with medical research, agriculture, drug and alcohol addiction, etc., you'd see far fewer homeless people, and very quickly.
