Just an afternoon memory.

In recent years, I have been asked by several people if I am in the military because of the way I speak in public. When I am at a restaurant, I always say "please" and "thank you, and I address the server accordingly as " sir" or "ma'am." One time at a subway shop, I was almost given a military discount. I quickly told the young lady that I was not former military, and I urgently insisted to pay full price and be honest. Another time, while at the counter placing my order at an arby's restaurant, I was wearing my 511 tactical hat and just speaking politely to the cashier (who happened to be the store manager). He asked if I was in the military and I said "no." He told me, because of the way I was dressed and the way I spoke, he thought I was current or former military. What a compliment. I have even been stopped by police a couple times, and when they ask questions, I keep a cool head, speak calmly and honestly and use "Sir" or "ma'am" to end my sentences with.

So, why do I share this? Older folks today do appreciate it when the younger generation is polite and shows respect. These are 2 long forgotten virtues in our society. Hope you enjoyed this.
