Why do they do it?

I've noticed something and it bugs me.So many girls when they are standing,either looking at their phone,waiting at a bus stop or just standing speaking to someone,stand with one leg crossed over the other.Some seem to do it more noticeably than others.Why do they do it,and has it just become a thing recently?
