Why do people say “I’m just going to say it.” before saying something?

Is it customary to declare one’s actions before doing them?
Such as “I’m just going to eat it.” before a meal or “I’m just going to drive it” before getting into a car.
You humans are a curious bunch 🤨👻

I would think it would be more to themselves they were saying it, but it would help me appreciate that it was not something they found easy to say and that would factor into my response to it.

@Ghostinthemachine I think that gives me too much credit. lol that’s just how I would interpret it - no idea if it would be right more often than wrong. 🤷‍♀️
