Just a question I have regarding drugs and police officers just letting them go????

So someone very close to me dozed off at her job last night & of course they blamed it on drugs. This person DOES have a history with drugs, but apparently is sober now, I don’t really know. She had a meth charge in like 2018… This man at her work called the cops on her last night, cop interrogated her in the parking lot.. Cop eventually searched her car & her purse, said they found all kind of residue on her belongings and even did drug tests on all the residue he collected right there in the parking lot, said it came back positive for meth… but then… he said “I’m just gonna let you go on and leave, but I’m not letting you drive so call someone to come get you” (she called me).. and idk, I’m just wondering if he really found all this residue that came back positive, would he really have just let her go?! Or was he just sayin that it was positive for meth to scare her…
He kept her there for about 2 hours interrogating her, he was apparently off duty, wasn’t in uniform, but had a trainee with him. He kept saying she was gonna go to jail bc of all this residue that came back positive, but eventually just let her go??

He didn't find anything but residue
Didn't think she was in the right frame of mind so he had her get a ride

All good from what you've told me

Your past doesn't go away and you'll be judged by it till you prove otherwise

@pdockal thank you! I was just concerned if she was using again… because he said he found all of this meth residue and evidence, yet LET HER GO? So it was most likely a lie, right? since he just let her go??

@DarianPaige

Lie ?
You didn't say anything about evidence

Did she sterilze her car after she quit?
Probably not so residue will be present.
If he let her go why are you questing it?

@pdockal I meant the residue was evidence.. & the drug tests of the residue that apparently came back positive is evidence …. & I’m questioning it because I want to know if she actually had meth on her. This is a family member and I am concerned.

@DarianPaige residue is like having money that turns up positive for cocaine. But really no evidence
@Lilnonames I like the money example!

I just looked it up, the typical $1 and $5 pass thru about 110 hands per year; a $20 passes thru 75 hands per year. I don't know how long drug residue persists, and how much transfers to adjacent bills in a wallet or cash drawer, but surely after 5 or 10 typical uses of a bill, it's probably not rubbed clean.

So yeah, a small amount of residue in purse doesn't tell you much at all about where the residue originated.
