Have you recently felt like people only appreciate you because they need you?

In my world it isn’t that they need me it is that I just happen to be the one who will do the thing they need. I am learning to ask for things I need to get a read on the person and to see if they will do it without monetary gain or something in return. I feel bad that I have to test them in order to feel like they can be a friend but I have had too many people who just take and take and take and when I need something no matter how small no one helps. So yeah, it’s a thing. But I am lucky to have a couple people who are in my life and make sure I know they are here for me without any strings. That means I am there for them too. So not everyone is that way. Without them appearing in my life recently I would have given up on people.
