Roman Reigns' cancer scare was orchestrated to push him as a face in the company, because WWE producers couldn't find any way to organically get the fans to adopt him as the face of their company.
CM Punk's exit was another example of making a commodity more valuable by creating false scarcity.
It's what Disney's been doing for years with their Disney Vault BS. It's what Nintendo's doing now, in trying to erase their history.
Now we live in a world where wrestling relies heavily on creating these false scarcities, instead of writing engaging, meaningful content.
