Are you proud to be a member of your country?

A lot of my country's history (and present) are pretty shameful, it seems like there is more to be embarrassed about than to celebrate (in the celebrate column would be things like jazz and abstract expressionism, yet these things were created in a country that arguably does not even have a right to exist in the first place, having just stolen land from people already here and forced them to relocate in multiple stages/periods of genocide)

I really don't think I even understand the whole concept of being proud of something though, particularly things done by others and/or things you had no choice in ... what even is "pride"?
