At 10 years old he killed his mother because she wouldn't buy him a VR reality headset. Once she died he stole her credit card and bought it himself.

One place said he could get up to 60 years for this crime but that's basically life in prison. He's only ten but at the same time I fear what his adult self will do to people

Yes, he should certainly be put away for a very long time. We can't allow anybody, even a child, to get away with murder. There may be underlying issues, and it's up to the investigators to find out those issues if any, but that is no excuse to allow a murderer to go free.
Yes, this child is motherless now at his own hand, so it is now up to society to teach this child the value of life going forward. Even if that lesson is taught behind bars. Hopefully one day he will understand what he did, understand the value of life and grow up to be a better person, but for now he has to understand that he must be held responsible for his actions.
