I find it weird that we all keep saying "hi" "hello" "salam" and all words meant for greetings

After we have said it like thousands times already.

And we act like it is supposed to mean something when it's just out of habit.

Or maybe a sign of noticing the other, a subtle type of validation.

Humans really love their rituals to the degree that not engaging the ritual would be seen as offensive. It extends to so many behaviors including when giving advice and the expectation of being acknowledged for it even if the lack of acknowledgement is no intentional malice.

I honestly find all of it too tiring to keep up with, perhaps because I have been exposed to several cultures and perhaps I have been this way all along.

I understand greetings and goodbyes as a way to announce your arrival and leaving so that others wouldn't be surprised how and when did you appear and disappear. Or as a way to get attention when you need something from someone. If it doesn't matter then I see no point in them and they are just a waste of words. Just like sayings like bon appetite, which I by the way hate because I see zero purpose in it and it just annoys me when I'm expected to repeat that like a monkey if others in the community started it first. Unnecessary talking.

@CrazyMusicLover it makes sense if you say goodbye to leave. Short and simpler than having to explain why each time.

But hello to say you are there is less meaningful since they can see you are there + can realize that from the rest of the conversation .
