I've given clothes and other things to charity. With my firstborn we ended up ordering two cotbeds but instead of getting a refund or selling it I donated it to a charity for babies. Also had a spare moses basket/bassinet that I donated...ordered this extra stuff because I was staying with my mom and also staying at my boyfriend's. She was dying of cancer when my son was born and so for the last month of her life I moved back in. I gave all my son’s baby clothes to charity last year and there was a whole lot of them. Gave away blankets and other things too.
I'd really like to start helping poor families with young kids, and I've also thought about volunteering to talk to people facing death due to cancer or whatever. The latter would probably be very depressing though.
People can work their own stuff out beyond that.
