What if they made school mandatory until you were 44 years old?

There will be a shortage of teachers

Society would nearly collapse from the financial costs alone, and it would be extremely unpopular to the point of causing unrest.

Try working in certain industries some time. When I was doing hazmat had to be certified yearly in many areas. Heck it was so bad the companies themselves were complaining! They had to pay for it! 😆

I was 58 when I left.
@DeWayfarer I think Hazmat was part of some of the hospital medical waste. I know that word really well. Part of Universal Precautions. We had to wear gloves and face coverings. The waste bags were red to alert us to the potential danger.

@Grateful4you exactly. Yet this was dealing with anything hazardous: chemical, biological, poisonous and explosive hazards. I wore the white suit.
@DeWayfarer I admire people like you that never get recognized for the work you do. I hope they compensate you well sir.
I would love it. Unless we had to eat cafeteria food every day, although I hear it's some better these days.
I resent "Mandatory" but as an elder I believe learning is an on-going process.

@Grateful4you My rebellious brain just said, "I got your Mandatory!" 🙄

School is time consuming. That would be a terrible idea.
When I am going to have time to LIVE? That would be messed up.
