Why do some people have to be negative all the time towards others? How can someone be so dangerous with his/her thoughts?

Sometimes it has to do with mental illness, other times it has to do with wanting others to feel as terrible as they do, and then sometimes, some people just don't know how to find the positives in life. They can't escape the hole they've dug for themselves.
