Maintenance

Hello,

Similar Worlds will be temporarily unavailable for about 3 hours, during our Upgrade to a new and more powerful Server.

This maintenance is scheduled to take place at: [b][c=#FF0000]Tuesday May 17th, 2:30 am Central Time (8:30 am GMT)[/c][/b] and should take about [b]3 hours[/b] to complete.

We are very happy that our community is growing, and we need to improve our back-end so that we can support the growing traffic and data, while improving reliability at the same time.

After those 3 hours, everything will be back to normal.

Hi @VSonMe,

Messages can't be encrypted in our database for a number of reasons:

1) Users would need to have the key to decrypt them, and that would really work, unless everyone would be willing to keep them and agree that if they ever lose it, the messages won't be recoverable.
Also, most people don't know what this means and wouldn't understand how to use this.

2) There's not really an easy automated way to do this on a website.
The only easy way to do this would be if we stored the key ourselves, but I don't really see how that would protect users, because an attacker could easily get the keys anyway.

3) As Andrew explained below, in cases of serious reports, we (admins) need to be able to access relevant portions of private conversations, to take action where necessary.

Please also make sure you always use our "https" version of the site to ensure there is no "man in the middle" watching you on Similar Worlds.
