Well the rest of the world calls it football, American football they use their hands mostly like rugby so that's not really football. So soccer is the American word for football is all, that's how it translates. BTW LOVING THE euros, yay Northern Ireland!!!!!!!!

@Mesmerised The usage of the word soccer precedes the word football to talk about the sport specifically. Association football did not just cover football, but also rugby. Soccer became the official differentiation word. Then for a period of time soccer and football were used interchangeably, then eventually soccer fell out of favour in the UK.

Well, it used to be called "soccer" before "football" in GB. So both are technically right.
