One of the lads [I Am Quitting Smoking]

In my schooldays I resolved never to smoke.
A cousin tried to get me to smoke before a football match years ago. I was offered a cigarette, by another in our group, which I politely declined.
My cousin said something about "be one of the lads" and suggested that I take one. I was and still am a life-long non-smoker. I hate smoking, the cost, the smell, the ash, watching relatives turn into withered gnomes and die painfully, gasping for air. Another caught his clothes on fire!
My cousin no longer smokes.
Not starting, is easier than quitting.

You've reminded me of a time when my best friends tried it (at about 13) and tried to persuade me. It was tough not to give in at that age and I still recall the struggle within. I didn't and actually after a few coughs and splutters, I don't think either of them bothered again.
