I Like To See Young Smokers

Many places are raising the smoking age to 21. I totally oppose this. Most smoking related disease comes later in life. If anything we should have a maximum smoking age like 65 or even 55. Besides it only looks attractive when young people smoke...it looks terrible when older people do it.

All the negative comments is the root of what's wrong with this site. If you are in a group with an unusual opinion it goes straight to a general audience who ridicules it. On the old Experience Project site you could share your opinions exclusively with those who are like minded and can relate.
@Cleancut No, your opinion is being questioned as real one nit because it is *merely* an outlier, but because it is based upon a complete lack of understanding of the health facts about smoking.

@SomeMichGuy Do you disagree with the fact that the overwhelming majority of smoking related disease and death takes place among old people? If so look it up and you will see that I am right.
@Cleancut

You are just being intentionally stupid & ignoring the WHOLE truth, cherry-picking a "fact".

All kinds of exposures eventually kill you, but it doesn't mean you are healthy until then. The damage to & changes in the cilia happen long before then (though this can be reversed, if you stop for several years).

It increases your chances of developing LOTS of other conditions (heart disease, emphysema, etc.).

And you don't only dose yourself...or are you not aware of the huge "secondhand smoke" lawsuits?

Intentionally treating your body badly is not a sign of intelligence or wisdom.

You must work for a tobacco company...

@SomeMichGuy Tobacco companies would never allow someone with my opinions near their doors. My point about Experience Project stands. All the health arguments you bring up are well known and well established, to the point where they are not interesting to discuss. On EP I wouldn't be having a mainstream discussion about the health risks of smoking with someone who couldn't begin to understand my thoughts or motives, I would be in a group with people who understand me and can relate to me. We could talk about smoking from other dimensions besides health. I say this all as a healthy lifelong non-smoker.
@Cleancut Since smoking IS a health issue, and will often kill you either directly or indirectly, the "other dimensions" are noise and your attempt to claim some superior understanding is a transparent attempt to save some dignity in the face of what you acknowledge was a foolish, losing argument.

Encouraging young people to smoke is despicable, but that is the impression a young person would get from posts like this and this inexplicable group.
