Up in smoke

I have never smoked and yet when I met my ex, I naively thought that love conquered all and maybe, just maybe, I'd be able to encourage him to give up. It never worked of course and so I lived with someone who refused go outside for a puff, and sat on the sofa with swirls of smoke above his head as I sulked to another room to do some work. Now my home is smoke free (many years later) and I never allow anyone who visits to light up, and it’s always funny to me in seeing the look on their faces as though I have scolded them.

An old relative died and when her house was cleaned up you could see where the smoke drifted up from her chair, up the curtains and onto the ceiling. When people started to clean the walls the room smelled like smoke salmon or smoked salmonella. It reeked, it was stomach turning.

@Pitchblue It took double coats of Kilz to entomb the layer in the house we bought from smokers. ...Then another two layers of paint. We removed carpets and put down wood over a vapor barrier.
