I Have Used Lsd

I first used LSD the summer of 1977. I had just got off the Appalachian Trail - I had only had enough time between semesters to hike about a quarter of the trail alone - to return to college in the fall.

I was 26 years old, having just competed my first year of law school, after two years of teaching at an American school in San Jose, Costa Rica.

I went to a friend's house and he handed me a tab of acid - microdot, as I later learned with more experience. He told me that he had someplace to go, and that I should take the tab in his company at a later date when he was available.

As I was leaving his place, the last thing he told me was not to take the acid by myself under any circumstances.

I walked the few blocks home. My total drug experience at that time was with pot - though I did that fairly heavily when I had it. I mean I could - and often did - go through an ounce in a week or two. I would then be dry for a spell until I had the money for another ounce. I always shared my pot when I had it, so didn't feel too bad about smoking someone else's during my dry spells - also a week or so.

Anyway, after being back in my apartment - alone except my cat, who a friend had taken care for me while I was on the AT for seven weeks - I decided to experiment with the acid.

Remembering my friend's warning, I decided to try to be safe and to ease into it. I took a sharp razor blade, and carefully cut the microdot in half. I swallowed half of the acid, and sat back to observe the results.

Again, I was new to acid, and didn't know that it would take an hour plus to hit, so when nothing was happening after about 45 minutes, I swallowed the other half.

Obviously, that was a mistake, as I soon learned. Knowing that I had screwed up, and having no way to go anywhere to be with someone, and having no telephone to call anyone for help, I just resolved to sit back and ride out the trip.

It lasted about six hours or so, but I was determined to stay calm and to observe, so I got some paper and a pen to write down my thoughts and impressions. Of course, since this was my first trip, the acid was more in control than I was, so when I went to read the next day what I had written, it was mostly gibberish. With experience, I did soon reach a point where I would write down what I was experiencing, and that, plus my memory served as a log for my trips.

Since I had survived the first - unaccompanied trip - intact in mind and body, I was soon doing acid more and more, and loving it. Usually, I did these further trips with other people, though I also often flew solo.

As I got further into the LSD experience personally, I learned more and developed my own preferences. Even before my first trip, I had read many books on the psychedelic experience - Castaneda, for example - though reading is nowhere near as instructive as doing.

For example, I learned that LSD is very unstable, and that to preserve it for marketing, it is mixed with binders. The two main binders were used were: 1) basically rat poison which attacked the muscles, which is why you couldn't stop smiling so hard that your face hurt the next day, and 2) speed, which was why you were so antic you really couldn't sit back to enjoy and observe the experience.

After trying microdot, which was very heavy in binders, someone suggested blotter, which had fewer binders. I definitely preferred the blotter.

But, then another friend suggested liquid LSD, and a love affair was born. With no binders to interfere with the experience, I was free to allow the drug to open my mind and to take me to places that I had never dreamt possible.

Over the next ten years or so, I probably dropped acid about 50 times or so - sometimes doing multiple doses.

I never had anything that I would call a bad trip - though I have seen bizarre and strange visions. I have always thought that a bad trip was simply forgetting that you were paying for the experience. Rather than treating the proverbial giant spiders on the wall as real, you must remember in one small part of your brain that this is but an hallucination, and say "Man, I have got to get some more of that shit!"

After two years of law school, I dropped out to become an interstate mover/truck driver. No, there is no connection whatsoever between the abrupt career change and the drug use.

For the first several years of driving, I would still drop acid on a Friday if I knew I wouldn't be driving until Monday or so. At that time, drivers only got piss tests prior to employment or after an accident.

But, about 25 years ago, the federal government stepped in and set up the CDL (Commercial Drivers License) program. One of the requirements is that all trucking companies randomly drug test 25% of their drivers 4 times a year. If you are tested in one quarter, your name goes right back into the pool for the next quarter. And, to prevent drivers from trying to get clean in case their name is drawn, even the date in the quarter must be random. And, once your name is drawn, you have 24 hours to go to an approved site - such as an Urgent Care facility - to piss in a tube.

So, if a driver is really unlucky, they could theoretically get drawn on March 31, go and fill the test tube, go to work on April 1 only to find their name had been drawn again.

After the CDL requirements came in, I just figured I would give up all drug use until I retired. I did exactly that, not smoking pot or dropping acid for 25 years. I decided to retire about a year ago at 66, and have begun smoking pit again.

I really want to drop acid - liquid only, thank you very much - again as well, but am hesitant as I have been out of the market for so long that I don't know where to begin or who to trust! I live in Michigan and was able to get a medical marijuana card, so I can safely - except for concerns about idiot Jeff Sessions - buy pot. But, no state that I am aware of has a medical LSD program yet. If a state sets one up, I will be there in a heartbeat. In the meantime, I will just keep my eyes and ears open, and hopefully I will
come across the proverbial sugar cube somewhere safe!

One can always hope!

Hey dude :)

Nice post, I have done acid about a dozen times and the first time I had two drops from the bottle straight onto the back of my hand, then licked it up (tasted almost minty).. I then proceeded to go for a walk with my friends in the New Forest :)
....Peace...
