I Dont Like Drugs

I've Never Taken Drugs Of Any Kind..

I'm proud of that fact and that I've never even wanted to try them..
What amazes me as I spend more time on this site is the amount of youngsters that are using drugs on such a regular basis it's considered "the norm"
Even adults that know what a waste of money it is and how it's a mugs game still use what they call "grass, happy baccy, marijuana"
I have friends that have used it regularly but not around me, it doesn't affect our friendship but obviously I won't condone it and I would never allow it in my home..
I know some use it for medical purposes, but I have a lot of medical issues and suffer a lot of pain and I didn't think of smoking to handle it..
So my thought is why has it become such an accepted part of society and why do so many use them..Is it because their not strong enough to deal with the real world with a clear head? Is being stoned better than facing reality and actually dealing with issues in their life?
I'm honestly curious as to what keeps them doing it, the majority of us managed to have fun and excitement in our lives and youth without resorting to drugs, is that their only option.
No I'm not downing anyone or judging anyone that takes drugs I'm just very curious about it all and sad to see it become so accepted..

It could be similar to alcohol that it's a release from reality, the stresses and pains of life especially if someone is depressed.
My release is drinking so I dare say drugs are someone else's.

Okay but could you leave buying the drink if you needed something else more important in the house or say groceries..

If I'm honest it depends on how down I feel. I don't have anyone who depends on me (partner, children, pets etc) so it can be an easy decision for me.

@DownButNotOutYet: so you're saying sometimes the drink would take precedence..
Haydon23 · 41-45, M
There has been quite a few times that drinking has taken preference especially when it means forgetting reality.

@DownButNotOutYet: I'm sorry, I find that very sad that you feel that's your only comfort..don't you have a support network of friends and family?

Everyone has their own lives and are busy with their own problems.
There is only so much talking you can do and in all honesty, for me anyway, it solves nothing.

@DownButNotOutYet: well I guess it depends, having someone to talk to and offload to that will just listen can after a while be rewarding and uplifting in itself..

I've had private counselling and I have to disagree, it made it worse overall.

@DownButNotOutYet: I'm thinking more of friend wise than official..
Haydon23 · 41-45, M
It becomes a drag for me as well as for others going over the same problems.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@DownButNotOutYet: yes but sometimes even that is better than wallowing in them and sinking deeper..we all need lifting up sometimes hunni..
Haydon23 · 41-45, M
I know what you are saying but for me it's been going on for over three years and doesn't look like getting any better so alcohol is the only respite at times.

@DownButNotOutYet: well don't give up and remember our lives only change if we make the changes we need to make it happen...have a good evening sir..
