I Have a Mother Who Is Addicted to Drugs
My mum, Samantha, blows (pardon the pun) hot and cold when it comes to drugs....
She wasn’t a user when she had me but, within my first few years of life, she was a hardcore cocaine user.
It all led to me being brought up by my dad, but when mum was around she would usually be all coked up. I never realised at the time, I just thought that she had a weak bladder and a constant cold....
Later I realised. And she’s been in rough patches of being a binge user, being clean, being a user and being clean.
She was clean for a long time and then her mum died suddenly, which spiralled into a couple of years of hitting the stuff heavily....then she became clean again...
For the last couple of years she’s done coke every month or so, more sporadic than her usual, and that’s how she’s curbed those addictions....
Lately she’s been, she tells me, 6 weeks clean now. She sounds happy. I’m happy that she’s happy.
