In UK are GPs told by the NHS to deny patients treatment if they smoke cigarettes?

Could you say how you know if answering as might get answerers who don't know UK much

No, they don't turn people away for smoking .
We aren't denied treatment - but we are typically harassed to quit smoking/lose weight where applicable.

We don't have GPs anymore.

When I was just a youngster, there was ads for cigarettes everywhere you went and on TV. The government and tobacco companies made billions out of it. We were encouraged to smoke by them, (it was a social habbit) even though they knew how bad it was for our health and how addictive it is. They all kept that quiet from us for as long as they could, so they could make more and more money. Now they turn their back on us and alienate us from society.
@Unquestioned Funny, all the patches and treatments for quitting smoking would suggest it’s being addressed on some level. But I remember when they took cigarette ads off the air and replaced them with PSAs showing diseased lungs and dying smokers, so what I don’t understand is why there are young smokers now, because nobody under 50 can claim they started smoking before people knew it was unhealthy.

@bijouxbroussard I've tried giving it up many times, unfortunately I just don't seem to beable to. Like you, I can't understand why people start smoking now.
