Too much theft? I have no idea. Walmart doesn't sell tobacco here so impossible for me to guess.

@hippyjoe1955 no they don’t leave the tobacco products within reach of the customers before they paid and show an ID that they are old enough to purchase them.

@cherokeepatti OK makes sense. Tobacco retailers here have to keep them behind doors so they are never seen. You have to order them and the clerk opens the locked case and gives you a pack. I don't smoke so I am going on observation not on experience.

@hippyjoe1955 they have to keep them locked up and the customer has to show an ID for age if they they have graying hair or wrinkling in the face. It’s not just about loss due to shoplifting but federal law providing tobacco to underage customers. The manager would be arrested if anyone was caught selling alcohol or tobacco to underage. That kind of amused me in training because the manager was such a dick that everyone would tell things about how he was running the store.

@hippyjoe1955 nope, they want more self-checks, they have to have a cashier check IDs to verify age before they can sell tobacco products. Can’t do that on a self-check.
