@TryingtoLava I really don’t listen to rap music I used to go to some underground hip hop shows about 20-25/30 years ago.
(Blackalicious, Andre Nikatina etc.)
I just thought this song would make a good cheesy dad type joke. You were right about the song reference though I just thought that you didn’t know I was using it for the pic caption reference.
@Badjujubee nikki isnt underground silly thats like saying mac dre or E40 is underground

@TryingtoLava I used puff trees but I switched to dabs about 15 years ago and I started taking breaks for my tolerance, and then I stopped dabs because of the cost and the fact that I didn’t want to perjure myself on a federal form that would get me a significant financial penalty as well as a significant federal legal penalty/(charge) and render me ineligible to own/buy/use certain things. So I am sadly cannabis-less for life now.

@TryingtoLava He was in 1998/99. He’s just one example that I could think of off the top of my head and I haven’t slept in over 72 hours so please forgive my ignorance but I don’t think my history and experiences would make sense to anyone who is born after me.
@Badjujubee o ik rap music like deeeepppp i can go back to grandmaster flash ;)

@TryingtoLava I would say E40 is just a Bay Area style artist and Mac Dre is more appreciated now that he’s dead tbh. I would say Z-Man is a Bay Area underrated artist that can also be considered underground.
I did listen to some hip hop in hs and college and went to shows like Wutang and Cypress Hill and the Beastie Boys but I consider them to Hip-Pop and very mainstream and just like 50 cent was popular party and club music in my youth.

@TryingtoLava Nice. Sugar Hill Gang(ster) huh? 🤔 lol
Badjujubee · 46-50, F
@TryingtoLava Fan of Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot ? Lol
Badjujubee · 46-50, F
@TryingtoLava I don’t consider the fact that I have heard hip hop music in my life the same as actually listening to it because I don’t own any albums other than the entirety of the Wutang Clan discography even the Killer Bees etc but definitely not Silva Rings lol 😂
@Badjujubee busta rhymes in black sheep and noooo on missy but naahh the bay loved thizzle thanks to mac and jayZ is a clown
@Badjujubee wutang is legend RIP to ODB

@TryingtoLava So when I was younger I had been around all types of people who were really into the “fresh” style vs the “Hessian” style (fresh vs hesh) as far as the skate world goes and that’s what I would say had a major impact on the fact that I wasn’t able to get into hip hop/rap
I think Run The Jewels is a good example of hip hop pop currently. Pusha T and Tyler were a good example about 15+ years ago etc.

I agree with you on this statement 200%
Jay Z was someone that I just couldn’t understand why my friends who were only 3-5 years younger than me went crazy over. I thought he was a joke. These same people were into Eminem and Kid Rock too and I know that Kid Rock was around for a while before he became mainstream but I just couldn’t stand either one of them when my friends would play them in their cars so I made sure that I drove to keep them from having access to the music they consumed.

@TryingtoLava I just remember around 2003/04/05 when hyphyy started to get popular and I was not a fan at all. It made me sad that DJ Shadow gave it a try.

Haha lol this was terrible but it bumped in the Bay and clubs.
Badjujubee · 46-50, F
@TryingtoLava omg yes it sounds terrible now. I hear stuff in skate vids and snowboard vids and even the mountain bike videos and it’s terrible. I think the autotune trend was the beginning of the end of any talent in the genre. I don’t understand the lil peep type of emo rap etc. again I hear way more than I want to lol

@TryingtoLava if you are into Bay Area hip hop it seems like you just have to support anyone else who gets popular in any sense.
I remember being in middle school and being into Digital Underground and I had an older friend who introduced me to Del the Funkyhomosapien and Heiroglyphics (sp?) and I didn’t mind that stuff. But that’s probably the only stuff that I bought and listened to back when I was 20-24 yo. I had a bf that was into music of all kinds back then. So I got exposed to a wide variety. I had a few friends who were from the east coast in college who introduced me to their favorites like Gangstar and KRS1 and I liked their tastes and styles too.
@Badjujubee gurrrll i know digital underground thats where pac came from! And knowledge regiens supreme over every - 1 and boogie down productions? Pshh ima OG :) what bout NaS i mean hes king of E

O and its always hyphyyyy in Atown
