Can anyone here recommend a good effective but NOT fast acting laxative? I am only 11 steps away from a toilet yet have messed up my floor with feces

I have had the disheartening experience of messing on the floor on my way rushing to the toilet because a laxative I took worked very suddenly. And my toilet is only 11 steps from my bed. I have been an invalid for 10 months now and, believe me, it sucks bigtime. I need a laxative that will absolitely work--but NOT suddenly!

@Nitedoc In my town it is illegal to have a potty in one's room in a rooming house which is the kind of house I live in.
