It works for some people for varying reasons.
For example, if one feels more comfortable behind a screen than in person at first.
Or if it happens unintentionally. Sometimes you meet people you wouldn't normally have online.
I know some people that discredit it because it isn't "irl" or "Face to face" or whatever. But it's still two people on the ends of those messages and in those video calls. There's still a connection made and eventually? There's still two people meeting face to face.
It's a little riskier, because of catfishing and people lying about who they are.. But people can lie about who they are, their ages and everything in person too.
It all depends on what you're comfortable with and there isn't a "right" or "wrong" way.
If it doesn't work for you and you have better luck in person, that's perfectly fine.
Or if you prefer to be alone. That can be less of a headache too lol.
