Ode to finally finding my soulmate..

Love Me When I’m Old, by Bee Rawlinson.

Love me when I'm old and shocking, peel off my elastic stockings
Swing me from the chandeliers, let's be randy bad old dears.

Push around my chromed bath chair, let me tease your white chest hair
Scaring children, swapping dentures, let us have some great adventures.

Take me to the dogs and bingo, teach me how to speak the lingo
Bone my eels and bring me tea, show me how it's meant to be.

Take me to your special places, watching all the puzzled faces
You in shorts and socks and sandals, me with warts and huge love-handles.

As the need for love enthrals, wrestle with my damp proof smalls
Make me laugh without constraint, buy me chocolate body paint.

Hold me safe throughout the night, when my hair has turned to white
Believe me when I say it's true, I've waited all my life for you. 👩‍❤️‍👨
When I looked up soulmate in Wikipedia, which maybe helpful here, it says soulmates can be platonic as well as romantic or sexual.

Compatibility figures most. And that does not mean identical personality. I think it means being able to compensate for each others weaknesses and draw on each others strengths.

The bond is very strong. And soulmates will protect each other at all costs, though not at the expense of others. And of course one may die before the other. The loss of a soulmate will give pain beyond. But they know they will be united in the next life.

It goes beyond trust. Anyone can say they trust each other. And they invariably don’t. ( I met loads of people at work who said that, and my alarm bells went up immediately.) I bet you never hear two soulmates say you can trust me!

Read the poem Annabelle Lee by Edgar Allen Poe. That gives the best understanding soulmates I’ve ever found. I have a post on it, (though it’s context is Goths too).

I hope that helps a little, Jemima. Ask me again in a couple of years.

@sunriselover That's really interesting. Can be platonic as well as romantic - I like Edgar Allen Poe.

Did you write that, Gemma?

@Jemimapuddleduck I don't remember it as a comedy but rather sad......

@ArtieKat Really? I thought with Victoria Wood in it, it might be. I'll watch it though, I saw just the first little bit where they are getting on the coach. I like these shows better than some of the American ones. Completely different kind of humour. 👍
