Karen and Walmart
This happened on my husband’s birthday. I was working later hours that day but first I ran to Walmart and got cards, silly little novelty gifts and a couple of books to round out the birthday celebration.
At the end of the day I went to my car and started to assemble the birthday presents when I realized that half the things I’d bought that morning were not there. I must have left a Walmart bag behind me when I left. So I drove back to Walmart and stepped up to the customer service counter and explained my predicament.
The woman behind the counter got this skeptical expression but stepped over to a set of wall shelves and took down a bag, presumably containing the stuff I’d left behind. She came back to me holding the bag and turned her back on me to screen the contents from my eyes.
“What did you buy?” She sneered over her shoulder at me.
I said, “A couple of Snoopy pencils, two cards, and a couple of books.”
“Describe the cards.”
“Um…one is South Park and the other is a romantic to my husband card.”
“Describe the envelopes.”
“One has balloons on it.., um, I don’t know about the other one.”
“Tell me about the books,” she said challengingly. I was not so much upset as bemused. I thought this might end up with fingerprints and DNA testing.
“One is about a dragon and the cover has an oval cutout with a colorful picture of a dragon in the oval. The other two are hardbacks too but I don’t recall the titles.”
She started to open her mouth again but the woman in line behind me stepped up and said in a low intense voice, “Give her her stuff, for the love of God!!!”
She did, grudgingly. And I went home to my husband.
