I may be oblivious, but I wasn't profiling!

I work in a grocery store and we have a stupid practice of giving customers who complain a gift card. Many are aware of this, so they find ways to complain so they can get free food with the gift card.
Last night we were very slow, and I left my register to go put back a pineapple that someone didn't want. I walked past the bulk department on the way back.
When I got back, there were two pretty black ladies ready to check out, so I called them over to my register. One girl wasn't buying anything, and the other had 2 cookies. The one buying the cookies had the cutest sweatshirt on and I commented about how cute it was and asked where she got it. She acted friendly and we chatted a bit and I said " have a great night " and they left.
A few minutes later, my manager and the assistant store director came over to me and said they had to talk to me.
They sat me down and asked me if I had gone to the produce section and I had forgotten about taking back the pineapple, then I remembered.
Apparently the two ladies I had checked out complained and said that I was following them around the store, profiling them, thinking they were stealing.
I was so shocked because I never even saw those ladies until they checked out at my register! My assistant store director told them I was "oblivious " to my surroundings a lot, and probably wasn't trying to follow them. Then they gave them a gift card.
I was hurt by the whole situation. It makes me so sick that mean people can just get away with stuff like that to get a gift card. And they had seemed so nice when I waited on them and I honestly never saw them in the store at all until they were in my line.

Don't take it personally, people are greedy and they don't are who they hurt to gain material things
