Grocery pickup etiquette

It’s been an interesting observation of mine since moving. Where I lived before, no one ever got out of their car. They just sat, waited their turn, the employee came and loaded their car up, and then they drove off. Here in my new, smaller town the men seem to always get out and stand by their car waiting for the employee. They help the employee load up, talk to them the whole time, and then they go on their merry way! The women never seem to get out. It always leaves me confused…like, should I be helping them load my stuff? I feel rude now if I don’t!!
