Property taxes. It seems ridiculous that I pay for the land, improve the land with a house and landscaping, improving the city, and then the city charges me for it.

They are not charging you for it, they are USING your land as a mechanism to extract tax dollars from you to run the city you live in.
If they never taxed your property, how else would they derive the required funding to run the city?
If you don't like paying property taxes, then move into an apartment and pay rent instead. But just remember, when you rent anything from a car to a house, you don't own the locks on the door.

@swirlie They are charging me, plain and simple, split hairs all you want. As for paying for it, the same way they would for most of the other things people want for free, and not property taxes.

Like I asked you but which you never answered, if they never taxed your property, how else would they obtain funding to run the city?
