The most satisfying part of a trip is looking at maps planning what you're going to do.

I don't go on vacation to relax, I'll plan every single day so that I can see as much as I can with as little money as possible. We're going to walk in the mountains for 3 hours and I don't wanna hear any complaints. We're going to swim in 3 different beaches every day and have breakfast from the cheapest bakery and I'm going to search every single souvenir shop for the best thing cause I'm not just going to buy the first magnet I see in front of me. I have a list of every single thing I'm going to pack and yes I know you forgot to bring toothpaste but don't worry I have you covered. I'll also take the best landscape photos and send them to you so you can upload them and impress other people.

Generally, I'll have a sort of broad strokes plan but, I like to give myself the flexibility to simply follow where my mood takes me or what strikes me as interesting on the day.

In October, I'm having what I've dubbed as my mini Greek Odyssey. Athens, Samos, Patmos (visit the monastery and cave associated with the Book of Revelations), back to Samos (generally wander around but ultimately go on a couple of hikes that a friend has already mapped out), back to Athens and finally go back "home". I've allowed for the whole month of October.

And yeah, I will be hunting for super-cool souvenirs and will be taking countless photos.

@room101 October is a good time for that! I haven't been to those islands but if you need any local advice for Athens you can ask me!

@HannibalAteMeOut vacation is the porch of a small cabin in the woods and by a lake.
