Inspired by a true story.
An old man walks into a national chain shoe store on a Tuesday evening. The adult must have been on supper or smoke break. Two teens working.
“Can I help you?”
“Looking for black Oxfords.”
Blank stares.
“Dress shoes.”
“We don’t have them.”
“Well, I’ll look around anyway.”
“Let us know if you need help.”
“Thanks. I will.”
I find them, pick them up, check to see if both are same size. One of the kids walks up, “Those aren’t it.”
I’m going through answers in my head that will make it a teaching moment. And polite. I have nothing. Besides, it’s not my job to train shoe store employees. Who am I? Al Bundy?
Putting the shoes back,
“Okay, thanks for your help.”, walking out.
“Have a nice day sir.”
“You too.”
In the parking lot I go to old reliable, Amazon, search men’s black Oxfords, Florsheim. They have my size and they will be on my doorstep within 24 hours. With a six pack of black dress socks. And two dozen Callaway Supersoft golf balls. And a printer cartridge. And a case of paper towels.
