I never went to Kmart much (none nearby),
but I really miss Sears. ☹

@Thinkerbell

I liked Woolworths. We had a big one with a parking lot in town

When Aerosmith were nobodies they lived in my town. They played in the parking lot occasionally

And, as a kid, I loved that awful orange aid they sold

I don’t particularly miss either store but sad that the closing first of mom & pop shops and now malls signify the end of an era (or two.) With the internet occupying an increasingly significant role in our lives, I fear people getting more and more isolated, lonely and depressed.

@OlderSometimesWiser Spot on reply!
i miss sears....my mom worked as a cashier at their automotive department back in the 70s....she liked it there and if i remember correctly the money wasn't half bad....i remember when my dad and i went to pick her up i'd always ask...mom, can i have this, mom can i have that?.... yeah like i really needed a key chain ring or a quart of motor oil 🤣

I miss the mall but its because i moved out of town or rather was moved out of town with my family when our dad moved us out here to nowhere away from the big expensive crime filled city by the sea.. i missed it for a long time.. but a quiet woods without murderous rapist is nice too .. not that they aren't here just they aren't screaming for their life next door while under attack (the next door neighbor fought a rapist off with her bare hands and he was armed with a knife) woke my dad and mom up with her screaming for help and the police..

The mall had an ice skating rink.. and i remember my mom buying bluberry milkshakes and watching them make them ☺

I do miss both of them; as well as Bradley's, Clover, Two Guys, Woolworth's, and Sym's
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
Yes, I do too.
AbstractWave · 61-69, M
I like both stores

I kinda miss Sears, if only just for nostalgia if nothing else. K-Mart was tacky.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Yep.. same
Especially the generation of sears when they had Kenmore, Craftsman, and Die Hard
Hold on a second, where did they go??
Kiesel · 56-60, M
@AbsolutelyFabulous filed for bankruptcy a few years ago.
Sold off their Craftsman, Die Hard and Kenmore brands before that
@Kiesel ohhh that's sad.. I felt like they were an integral part of the usa retail market
Kiesel · 56-60, M
@AbsolutelyFabulous think when the Lowe’s, Home Depot and even Best Buy came around and started carrying appliances… that was the nail in the coffin for Sears.
There were other clothing department stores that were taking away market share from Sears in that regard.
Plus the Sears having car maintenance service bays was costly and Wal Mart has that. Among other cheap places
