If he’s going to put tariffs on imported goods has he considered that the countries concerned might put equally hi tariffs on American goods which could be detrimental to US companies

@Anniedlr US can put much more painful tarriffs on them, period. Especially on China. It's gonna be a race between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump on who can wreck the Chinese economy faster. Xi has a considerable headstart, his Zero Covid Policy wrecked China, and his persecution of capitalists and the fall of Hong Kong, and warmongering against Taiwan has certainly caused investors, foreign and domestic, to flee his insanity- but I think Trump can do considerably more. We really can't count him out. But who knows, maybe Xi will collapse the CCP into seperate territorial cliques, each claiming to be the authentic communist party, wanting to reunite China. Xi is the lost of leader who can make that sort of thing happen.

Anything imported, including coffee

And not every product, just some. Or, and toilet paper and paper towels

If people are smart youd better buy all you think you want or need to stockpile before the Donvict is sworn in. Project 2025 calls for between 25% and as much as 200% tariffs on everything we buy that is imported. And of course ....how could that help but to lower inflation like he promised. DUH!!
Coffee...chocolate....Christmas presents....virtually everything on Amazon and Walmart is affected. Also TEMU.....ALI.
But on the positive side trumpers....this will only affect Dems. Not you of course. Cause you really showed us, huh?

@anythingoes477 It's a good point. They're about owning the libs. And owning China. It's nuts.
The only way they'll wake the hell up is if they personally suffer. They clearly don't care about others and believe in magic wands. Once they get hurt they might see how they've been played. Although it's just as likely they'll blame the Libs. Probably Obama.

Ladies , ladies . Now calm down !! Ok 🙄 this is all new and it will take time to take affect . Trump knows what he is doing . Hes a business man . He wants to force other countries that have not been very nice to us to be nice . Its about the money and making our country make items from the usa . Everyone has to be fair now adays .

It is likely that moving production back to the US from abroad will also be inflationary. It is simply cheaper to make them abroad. If they are made in the US prices will go up.

@Motzu Your economy isnt offshore. It makes higher value, hitech and high margin goods.
Your economy on all the metrics I can see is at least doing very well.
I wasnt commenting on the politics simply the economics. Tariffs tend to be inflationary.
If your country repatriates the making of low value consumer goods they will be more expensive than those made in countries with lower costs.
Also if the imposition of tariffs creates more jobs the employees will have more money. They will spend more, demand will increase and so will inflation.

Guess we'll have to start producing domestically instead of depending on countries that despise us and want to concur us.

Trump has suggested that he would lower the corporate tax rate to 15% for companies that move their production back to the US, thus exempting them from his tariffs.

60% to china and 10% to all other countries

@Penny moving factories takes time. Thinking about it sounds like a good idea. Are you prepared to go without toilet paper for 6 months. Of course not so it has to be imported and a lot more expensive. Lowering the corporate tax rate is supposed to save american companies a lot of money. And it does. The problem is the american companies dont pass the savings on to the consumer so they just pocket the money as more profits for them. Greed, corporate greed
