Has a social media influencer ever influenced you to make a purchase?

Just wondering if companies are actually making use of what they spend.

I'm not on facebook or instagram or twitter or most other social media sites; I don't think I encounter many "influencers."

Also, I hate watching online videos. I can read 3X as fast as talking heads talk, and I can skim to the key parts far faster, so unless the "influencer" has a terse writeup, s/he is unlikely to get thru my firewall.

Absolutely. Watching YouTube videos of people doing makeup and hair used to a lot. I found a lot of good products that way. I’ve bought clothes that way too, and I’ve bought things that were sponsored.
gabisart · 26-30, F
@itsok Yeah I think clothes and beauty products probably are the easiest for influencing people to buy. I've done the same too.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Not an influencer, but I was influenced to by an Aztec death whistle and fart spray bc of prank videos I've seen
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gabisart it's just artificial stuff that seems like shit/rotten eggs
gabisart · 26-30, F
@deadgerbil it was a joke 😅
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Actually yes. And i’m happy with it three years later.
gabisart · 26-30, F
@DisappearingTide haha so a one time purchase, and then a possible 4+ year influencer spend
@gabisart pretty accurate assessment
@DisappearingTide those raycons do look good tho. But I have been burned with cheap earbuds failing on me after a couple of months.

when I feel like buying something
I watch you tube reviews
I don't follow or subscribe and waste too much time there
I don't have my finger on the pulse of social media and nor do I care that much
I bought a glue gun
it's not as amazing as I thought and the things I tried glueing fell apart
I am about to buy twine to thread my brows
the regular sewing machine stuff ain't cutting it
WanderlustCat · 36-40, M
They usually influence me to go watch something else.
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
No if anything the opposite .
No. And I prefer to call them human commercials.
Penny · 46-50, F

Well a friend I had couple of years ago got a job in a department store and someone made a video of him modelling a cushion from that store. I then went and bought the same cushion. Every young person these days think they’re an influencer. 🙄
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I try not to buy anything advertised, but I don't have a TV or radio and I don't read newspapers or magazines. And i would never buy anything on the internet.
Pfuzylogic · M
I haven’t purchased an Art print from David Bowie’s daughter, Alexandria but I have been severely tempted.
Arorin · M
Ola englund has his own line of guitars and they are pretty great. I bought a 7 string from him.
dale74 · M
I bought a book he wrote only because all his videos are good and I saw it as giving back to him.
Yeah Max mcann internet cook. Olympic bronze weightlifting champion.

helenS · 36-40, F
I bought a pretty dress which was advertised here on SW.
MrEagle · 41-45, M
No. But the lady with the non stick pan on the infomercial sure did!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M

SW-User

JimboSaturn · 56-60, M

I wouldn’t know one if I bumped into them so no.🙂
minxy · 46-50, F
Always looks like another advertisement to sell me something, so no.
AdaXI · T
Yeah of course I mean if I'm gonna buy a new television then I'm probably gonna locate some in my price range then do bit of research on them models make sure they got all the right ports and specs and finally I'm just gonna let people pump me full of sh!t on you tube on for a few hours before making that spur of the moment decision based on which one had the flashiest video.

I don't wanna see facts! I just wanna see my new telly slowly turning around on a six pence in outta space so I'm like 'WOW that one would look so cool on my living room wall!!!'😅

No. Boobs don’t influence my purchasing decisions unless they’re attached to my fiancé.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I saw a guy playing a game and it looked fun so I bought it. So yes I guess.
IamBack · 31-35, M
I mean if social media are the plague of the 21st century, influencers are the rats spreading it 🤷🏻‍♂️
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Not that I can recall, but I have the short term memory of a goldfish.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
If it has not in a bad way.
But when I see these Tik Tok videos, I realize that people have indeed lost their minds.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@gabisart Because people are recording themselves at their worst moment.
And that is not good.
Some things should just remain private.
gabisart · 26-30, F
@Zonuss well if they want to publicly post that kind of stuff, its their choice to.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@gabisart @gabisart Yeah and its not a wise choice either.
Some things as I said earlier should be kept private especially if its a personal matter.
yeah sound proofing material for my van
gabisart · 26-30, F
@gabisart 🤣 just kidding
@gabisart what kind of candy do you like? 🍭
Freeranger · M
I love this shit......"social media influencer....." You DO realize of course, these lazy dolts with nothing better to do, dream up things on the corner of their beds, painting up their faces, name-dropping shit, and trust that the lower shelf of America is gonna invest in their false truths.....well, for a price......here's the number....operators are standing by.

How fekking mindless. A "SOCIAL INFLUENCER? " Hah.....weak people get what they deserve.
gabisart · 26-30, F
@Freeranger well they are being paid a lot by companies to do very little work. So they have to be influencing some people otherwise companies wouldn't be putting their dollars on the line.
WolfGirlwh0r3 · 36-40, T
Not with me, i am hyper critical of all media i consume, i mean fuck i dont even get why sex sells shit... But yeah i only buy the things i actually think i need or will be a help in my life!
spjennifer · 61-69, T
Nope, not at all, never, hell if Ron Popeil and Vince the Shamwow dude couldn't "influence" me to buy their crap, no influencer of today is gonna! 🤪
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Yah I have bought make up that way
Indirectly. A few have influenced the crap out of my daughter, who's influenced me
empanadas · 31-35, M
