I have heard this past month that summer will be terrible for inflation and food prices especially. I noticed some things I don’t buy often like hairspray has increased at least $1.50 for the brand and size I use. Which makes me happy that I’ve let my hair grow longer and don’t use hairspray often now. Something I also have heard is that Sam’s Club has an overstock of goods right now due to cargo container ships being allowed to unload. They don’t have warehouse space for it and are shipping it to stores. They want to have a fast turnover to make room for more so they may do some good discounting of prices. Some of the stuff is already nearly out of date from what customers have said (watched a You Tube video about it, one woman said she was given free products and not sample-sized either, full-sized items). So now would be a good time to stock up there. And they say when it’s sold out they probably won’t be restocking that stuff. Most of the cargo ships headed this way only have about 1/4 the normal load now.
I went to Sam’s Club in my city on Thursday and they were stocking all over the store in the early afternoon. And stacking stuff high, I’ve never seen such high stacks of merchandise there. I am sure what they said in that video is true.
@cherokeepatti heard there may be gas shortages here by mid summer and they're looking at odd-even rationing

@cherokeepatti Have to check dates on food type things . Expiration dates are so close 😩
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 Yeah and depending on what it is, might be buying it anyway. I’ve heard that some of that stuff sat in cargo containers for a year and is close to expiration due to that. If there are food shortages some things can be safely consumed anyway, pretty sure of that.

@cherokeepatti Milk eggs and orange juice . Don't mind too much on eggs . if lower priced . Just finished up some from Christmas . Had a few floaters 👍
@cherokeepatti most items are marked best by dates. it's usually good for a lot longer than that. just don't trust mayo. however won't buy if it's even close to best by date
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 well anything refrigerated you have to be careful about. You can always break the eggs and freeze them to use later. If you have freezer space you can open the milk, take out a bit and freeze it too. I heard some older ladies talking in the store before a winter storm and one said that’s what she did. She would buy half-gallon jugs of milk and freeze a couple of them just in case she couldn’t get out of the house to shop for awhile. Cheeses can be frozen and so can smoked sausage and bacon. I think the things that are expiring are the foods that are imported and cargo-shipped over here.

@saragoodtimes I have used mayo that’s expired, as long as it’s sealed and not too many months over it’s still good. Things like pickles of any kind in glass jars can be safe for a year or more after the exp date. They are exporting baby dill pickles from India now.
@cherokeepatti I'm fussy that way. same with dairy and meat
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes Have found the chubs (factory wrapped)hamburger to be some of the worst .Not too long a go at party . Had 16 people get food poisoning . Felt lucky that day for two bathrooms
@anoderod55 it's going to get worse., I'm afraid
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes Very scary 🤔
@anoderod55 indeed
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 I don’t trust the chubs of meat.
@cherokeepatti neither do I
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Not any more . Have to be able to see it . Bad part was it didn't look or smell bad . Told store and they said it happens quite often ?🤷‍♂️
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 and they keep selling it…geez, they don’t care.
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Yes they do (sad) keep selling . No they don't seem to care .(sad again)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 I’m picky where I buy my meat especially ground beef.
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Big recall right now on Jiff peanut butter . Manufacturer said throw it away . Don't think so . Stocked up on it . Now at five dollars a hit . Back to store for return
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti We are more these days . Found locally owned I.G.A. much fresher meat . Little higher price , but actually has better flavor too ❤️

@cherokeepatti Walmart increased their milk product prices almost .50 cents per unit across the board....so to speak.... Half and Half quart went from 1.98 to 2.48 overnite! WE are SCREWED!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@heavyone2 I’ve been buying milk from an Oklahoma company that is located in the next county….Braum’s….and every so often they put milk on sale. Last two times I’ve bought milk they had it 2 gallons for $6, they have increased prices overall and the half-gallons I was buying two at time with the price increase added up to $5.48 with taxes for two. So I look for a sale. Got a 14-year old growing boy who can drink that just him alone in two weeks. If I cook with milk it’ll last about 10 days or so.
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti That is a good price on milk... I pay 2 bucks for a half gallon and it's going to get way worse in the coming months.

Everything is skyrocketing and it's all pretty scary!

The small jar of Coffeemate is now almost 5 bucks... I was going to buy it at walmart and didn't check the price on the shelf. I got to the checkout and saw the price... I said "ain't no way" I will buy it!
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Noticed lots of semi trucks on the road today while out shopping Also noticed Wally world cantaloupe was almost rotten on the shelf (sad)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@anoderod55 Walmart lets a lot of melons rot. They could mark them down before letting them get overripe but they won’t do it. They just write them off as a loss. I about threw up a couple years ago a few days after 4th of July when there was a big cardboard bin of them sitting in the back near the meat waiting to be tossed.
