If You Have Attitude Then Having a Backbone To Back it Up Is Essential…

I went to a Neighborhood Walmart and got what I needed and had it in my cart, about 10 different items….they did not have any cashiers working to check out my purchases. I asked the woman who was watching the self check if they had anyone who would check out my groceries. She said I had to do it myself unless I had tax-exempt status (buying for a business). I told her no and if they wanted my business they would check out my stuff for me. If not they could restock the stuff in the cart. I walked out and heard one young man said “She has an attitude”. I thought “Yeah I have an attitude and I also have a backbone to back up what i believe”….

I often see stores with self-checkout - and they have a couple (or more) employees standing around to assist people check out - does that even make sense?

put them back on the freakin' register
I notice that most places are resorting to the whole self check out thing even some fast food places have it to where you have to use one of those touch screen things to order yourself, and not that it bothers me personally but I can see it being an issue for others. So, the fact that they’re not even willing to make accommodations for those who have trouble with self check out or self order is bizarre. I saw a man refusing to use the touch screen order at the fast food place and the employee just rang him up like normal on the register. Which I think that should always be at least an option at these places. I know many Walmarts are going to have all their registers be self check out but they should have at least two or three regular ones for people who aren’t able to do self check out.
@cherokeepatti Yeah, I figured you didn’t eat fast food. I remember you mentioning that.

@Stark I used to but I don’t trust it now. Too many chemicals, used cooking oil that is dangerous plus I don’t trust what they are using as meat.

Walmart is very slow at the best of times. With all self check out, I would just continue to order online and pick up. It used to try my patience trying to checkout there before the pandemic. I haven’t been inside since then. @Stark

welcome to the new age .. where everything is electronic, on app, cost savings and artificial

@SW-User they would love to have everyone order groceries including frozen, produce, dairy, meat etc online. That way the customer can’t examine the expiration dates to see how far away they are or check the meat to see if it has too much fat chunks in it or see if the produce looks fresh and not wilted. They can sell everything that way and get rid of it. I always look at dates on dairy and get the freshest I can. When I worked at Walmart there were customers bringing back lunch meat, bacon, pork chops, etc and they didn’t check dates when they bought it and found that it was turning green when they got it home. Imagine shopping on the internet and someone throws that mess into your cart and delivers it or you pick it up. Then you have to drive back over and bring it back, what a damned hassle.

@cherokeepatti yeah that is just nasty imo ..
No way i will succumb to that .. always go there and choose the produce myself! .. I will stubbornly keep doing it

@SW-User I also try to pay with cash as often as I can
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
My only regret was that I didn’t have a lot of ice cream and frozen items in that cart. They don’t want to spend the time to check out their customers but they can pay someone to put this stuff back.

@Groofydorkgerdo it would when people get fed up and start doing it more.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Groofydorkgerdo The mega corporations that are doing this are also embedding themselves in politics in various ways. They need to be cut off at the knees for that.

@cherokeepatti True enough, I guess we got to start somewhere.

Fuck Walmart! Lets boycott
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nebula That’s OK…some things need to be highlighted with a few choice words.
Nebula · 41-45, F
@cherokeepatti I teel passionately about it
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nebula thank you. People need to grow some spines and speak up and if that doesn’t work then walk out. I think they would eventually get the message. But as long as people keep doing this the stores and corporations don’t give a shit. Locally-owned stores are trying harder to offer customer service and maybe that’s who will clean up with this mess.

I stated driving to a neighboring town to shop at Aldi’s because of the checkout situation at my local Walmart. I don’t buy very much at Walmart anymore.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@James1956 I have done that too. The entire time of the mask mandate in my city I went to the next city which wasn’t much further to drive than driving across town in my own city. Did it for nearly a year. The people were friendlier there too, customers and store workers….not many liberals living there unlike my college city full of Karens.

If they have sone thing need. I send someone else
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MarineBob I was told to go there for the car lot lunch yesterday. I drove over to Sams Club instead. I could have gone to two other stores but a little further to drive in the opposite direction.

I prefer self checkout
We have a self scan in my supermarket, i scan as i shop and bag as i go along and then self checkout with the scanner. It takes just minutes

@InOtterWords same here. Its so handy
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@InOtterWords Not the point, they are trying to eliminate customer service. I won’t shop at a place that does that.
