I admired all those swimmers who qualified as W.S.I. under the Red Cross tests. It is required for most Life Guard jobs and requires the ability to fight off a panic-stricken victim and then tow them to safety. It would be an interesting question to study how many swimmers who raced, also worked as lifeguards! Many would be my hypothesis!
