The Season of Silence
by: The Snowdog
The air cools and I add a comforter to my bed.
It’s darker earlier now and going to bed at 7 pm no longer seems like a waste.
I feel myself grow quiet externally, even as my thoughts continue to multiply.
I try and remind myself daily that the definitions and labels given me by others, Do Not Matter.
That the way they seem to treat me isn’t a reflection of me.
Even as the echoes of their words ring inside my mind.
The forest walks lengthen. Not out of need or want, but rather in a manner of patience as I await the stillness of my mind to arrive. A thing that just takes longer right now.
I consider replying or posting or even going somewhere and doing something. All things I discard out of turn, just before I end up on a dirt track that wanders through the forest.
It’s a season of silence. A time of many words not really worth voicing. A moment of thoughts that I will just keep to myself knowing that speaking, typing, or even just thinking about them is nothing but a useless effort at understanding and being understood.
All of it bringing me back to the unheeded reminder:
“I am not what others claim me to be. I write my own story, and in that story I am worth…, something.”
And then…, I put down my pen, I close my laptop, I shut off my ringer, and I walk.
Along the paths of silence…, alone.
Be well
Live happy
Keep trying,
Rob
