I'm Right Handed

Can you train yourself to become ambidextrous? I’d love to be. 📝
In my grandma’s time, it is a sin to use your left hand so the nuns in the convent who are charged with their education normally bind the lefties’ children’s left hands in restraints whilst training them to use their right hands. As a result, these kids turned out ambidextrous. 🤔

Oh, that sounds awful. 😧
Oh it was. They beat the shit out of them too. 😫@zoech

@DrScissorhands That's literally why I write right handed now, but I'm weirdly ambitious. I throw a baseball right handed and a football left handed. Freaking nuns!

I'm about half way there. I can write just as quickly with my left hand but it's not as neat as my right. I was able to train myself to do this by typing with my left hand while using the phone or drinking coffee.

Oh, congratulations. 😇
NotJamieM · 46-50, M
I tried but never got beyond my left-hand writing looking like a first grader did it. And forget about throwing a baseball or football with it, lol.
zoech · 22-25
At least you tried. 🤗
xRedx · M
Yeah. I can write with both my hands simultaneously, upside down in cursive.
zoech · 22-25
Oh, that is amazing. 🤗
raysam363 · 31-35, F
My left hand is practically useless.
zoech · 22-25
Mine is too. ✏️
I would love to be ambidextrous, as well.

I struggled when I was younger too. 😬

You'll always have a dominant side, but you can improve your non-dominant side to get better and better to wear it's hardly noticeable. Just like switch hitters in MLB.
zoech · 22-25
I’m going to try to improve. 💪🏼
Thespis · M
@zoech Awesome! Lol Lefties are often better with their right than the other way around, just because we're forced to do so much with our right hand anyway.
zoech · 22-25
One of my brothers is left-handed. ✏️

yes ma,am its quite an east task to retrain the brain to accept the use of the left hand when one is right handed and vice versa, its done in the military all the time, weapons training and survival training, you just have to persist
zoech · 22-25
I’m going to persist. 😇
User41 · 36-40, M
That sounds like a meaningless time absorbing task

Get a pull up bar.

Hang a pair of jeans on it.

Grip the jeans and lean back.

Pull yourself forward.

It’s an old jujutsu technique to improve hand wrist and forearm strength @zoech
zoech · 22-25
Does that really work? 😧
User41 · 36-40, M
Absolutely

I’m ambidextrous
SW-User
@zoech why?!
zoech · 22-25
I want to be ambidextrous. ✏️

@zoech you can train yourself but the dominant side is what’s most natural
Yes, and that is why many people are. I was born left-handed, but grew up in a time when teachers saw that as something to be “corrected”. So I was compelled to learn to write with my right hand. At one point the nuns tied my left hand to my chair so I wouldn’t automatically use it. The result is that I use both.
Bushmanoz · 61-69, M
Yeah you can with practise
zoech · 22-25
I’d really like to. 💞
Bushmanoz · 61-69, M
@zoech it's just muscle memory. it will be hard but if you really want to you'll get there
