I Am a Lefty

The original hippies were politically lefty.

That's because it was a progressive movement and students and other thinking people latched onto that stuff early in the game. By that stuff I mean political and artistic freedom without causing harm to anyone or anything...and the pursuit of joy and personal uplift without harming oneself and the pursuit of a holistic and holy approach to life and spirituality.

Then many others copied the external features and colors and it wasn't progressive anymore.

I lived in the Haight-Ashbury in SF in the mid to late 60s. I met some very interesting people there and had many adventures.

@greenmountaingal Did you by any chance know this guy Ron Thelen who had the "Psychedelic Shop"?

According to the internet it was actually "Ron and Jay" who ran it....and I ask because there's an wonderful movie from the early eighties called "Four Friends" and the lead female role was played by a "Jodi Thelen".

The preview is on You Tube. I have a feeling she might be Ron Thelen's daughter (or other relative) from the shop... but can't get beyond a certain point in my research cause it ground to a close just poking around the internet.She would have been somewhere from age 4 to 6 or so... in 1967.

I had checked this all out a while back...Hope you can shed some light!

@Platoscave Yes, I [i]did[/i] know Ron at the Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street! But I did not know him well, we were only acquainted and, although I vaguely knew he had a child, I didn't know his daughter.

However, I grew up in the film world so I do know you can send her a letter through her agent if she is an actor. Call the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles and ask them who her agent is. If she is an actor, she is probably a member of SAG and they should be able to give you her agent's name and address. (Or, if she has been working in television, she would be a member of AFTRA, also in Los Angeles and they would be able to give you her agent's contact information).

@greenmountaingal I was hoping you knew more and if you see the film I think you will be convinced that girl really was the daughter of the hippyland psychedelic merchants Ron and Jay Thelen.

I would so much love to chat with her.

But I have not seen her in too many films since that ..maybe one other. She may be retired...will follow your leads though...really wanna do this!

I first found it on that awesome film and arts network called BRAVO..

Late lamented network. Glad I captured many films off it.

I also found out Jodi is probably NOT their daughter since she was born in 1962 and their firstborn came in 1967 or 66

Maybe a niece.

I am fascinated because she played a very hip free spirit in that film just as if she were exploring MANY questions that arose from that era:

Such as:

How can love and peace translate to meaningful action REALLY?

Are people serious about peace and love or it that stuff just patter to hide a hedonistic push for more personal freedom?

What are the ways that this "dream" of peace and love carries across the years if in fact it is real...or is the quest really about a nice life for ME?

What did forward looking people in the late fifties care about? How did immigrants fare? What gave people hope for the good life here?
