My favorite recent purchase

I like useful things and my new chopping knife is the best buy I've made in a long time. Makes prepping vegetables from carrots, onions and the like, to greens for salads, a snap!

I went for years and years with basically one kitchen knife - a good chef's knife, but this straight blade choppign knife is particularly good for chopping.

My husband is a freak about his knives...that he had before we married. He still has them and they are still razor sharp...because none of us are allowed to touch them.

Those appear to be quality well made knives. Of course sharpening them is also a Zen science only men know...do you use a steel or a strop?
Ontheroad · M
@TexChik I'm chuckling because nobody ever wants to use my knives for fear they might nick a blade.

Steel - a strop is for the true aficionado of knives who wants shave level sharp. I'm just an apprentice level.

@Ontheroad my husband in his wilder days moved to France and became a sous chef to work under some guy he admired. He knew the language and loved the work.

With a strop it takes him 10 seconds to return to razor sharpness.

He bought me my own set and keeps them " sharp", just not deadly
Good knives are a GAME CHANGER in the kitchen!

@MyMonstersAreReal so true. And the thing is, you don't know it until you've used or had one. Once you have, you can never settle for less.

Did you order fast enough to get a free case of Turtle Wax with that? Never know when you’re gonna have to wax your turtle. 🐢
Ontheroad · M
@OlderSometimesWiser I did! It was a choice between the Turtle Wax and a thingy to adjust the angle of the dangle... I got the thingy.
I am very particular with the kind of knives I use because I enjoy food prep like chopping, slicing, even mincing carrots.

I like a certain weight and grip. I’ve only used Global Knives. And i usually use the chef knife for most things 😁

@CookieCrumbs yep, the quality is certainly there, but as with most things... it's a personal preference.
@Ontheroad
And once you find the one that fits your hand and your preference , you don’t switch.

You and I are creatures of habit, but not routine. :)
Ontheroad · M
@CookieCrumbs yes! On both counts😉

@candycane you absolutely won't regret it if you get one - the only downside is you have to remember to sharpen it a 15 degrees rather than the standard 17 degrees, and those couple of degrees do make a difference.
