More on the birds... the feathered kind

A few days ago I posted a question on the bird feeder I put up and asked what others here thought about the volume of feed I was going through.

I got many responses which led me to getting an inexpensive game cam. Mystery solved.

With 48 hours of individual motion captures, I calculated that during daylight hours I was getting about 18 birds at the feeder each hour - no squirrels or other critters.

I need to up my game and buy more feed😁

The prettiest of them are the Cardinals and there seems to be several of them who visit... or a couple of them are piggies and return often.

Right on. If you can keep the mammals away you're on the right track. I've had some luck with squirt guns with bully birds and squirrels because I have specific areas I want for certain birds. Everyone gets to eat but they have to do it at different restaurants. :)

@Ynotisay I read quite a bit on placement of the feeder and the cautions on making the pole squirrel proof - looks like it is working. I did see early on that one squirrel made a few attempts at jumping to it from the fence, but he crashed and burned a couple of times and gave up.

My little feeder seems to get all sorts of different birds, but mostly Cardinals and a few different types of finches.

Now that I see the activity, I'm thinking of making one about double the size of the first one I made.

@Ontheroad Yep. It's all about the squirrels. They're relentless. :)
Finches are awesome because with that beautiful call. We don't get cardinals but they're beautiful.
If it's a new feeder it will just take a little time before a bunch more start showing up if the feed is what they like. Another feeder, with maybe a different feed that works for local birds, will definitely bring them. The word gets out. :)
Feeding wild animals is always wrong except when it comes to birds. It benefits them. And us. Enjoy.

wait till you start getting coopers hawks watching the feeders.
