Is it safe to use earbuds during thunderstroms? [I Am Responsible For My Own Safety]

My elders always told me not to use earphones or earbuds during thunderstroms because you could hit by lighting.

I wonder is this true? 🤔

My elders once told me they knew someone who got hit by lightning while talking on the landline during thunderstorm.
