question about funerals

I have a funeral coming up of a close friend, which unfortunately I am unable to get too because it's a different part of the country. I want to pay my respects, so I thought about writing a eulogy and then getting someone else (who will be able to attend), to read it. do people do that?. is it acceptable?

it can be done, you may better off to record yourself reading it and maybe they can play it in the funeral home, OR make a donation gift in the friends name to a charity they would have supported
