question about funerals

I have a funeral coming up of a close friend, which unfortunately I am unable to get too because it's a different part of the country. I want to pay my respects, so I thought about writing a eulogy and then getting someone else (who will be able to attend), to read it. do people do that?. is it acceptable?

funerals have gotten so individual these days.

sometimes it is a celebration of life and many people get up to pay their respects.

that being said - you could send it to the family and say "I can't be there but if I could I would love to add my voice. if this can't be read please know this is how I felt about them. I feel your loss."
