question about funerals

I have a funeral coming up of a close friend, which unfortunately I am unable to get too because it's a different part of the country. I want to pay my respects, so I thought about writing a eulogy and then getting someone else (who will be able to attend), to read it. do people do that?. is it acceptable?

Thats unusual.. And peronally I wouldnt consider it unless I had a particular story regarding the deceased I wanted to tell. Maybe sending flower. But a lot of the time requests go for "No flowers".😷
