I found the source of the battery drain on my wagon 😁🙌

Well.. my dad did. He came over last night with a multimeter (after I JUST bought my own multimeter 😂) & after he got here he realized he brought the wrong meter. Luckily I had my new one though 🙏

On his way here I discovered that my battery had a constant 4.5 amp draw with everything turned off. I figured that was too big of a draw to be from most regular electrical components in the wagon but what do I know 🤷

As soon as my dad showed up he said "lets check the alternator first" & sure enough.. that's exactly what was drawing 4.5 amps. Took him only 2 minutes to figure that out lol. He said it was probably because of a bad diode but either way, I ordered a new alternator right then & there for a measly $100. It will be here tomorrow then I can install it ASAP & drive my wagon again 🙌

I felt happy as hell because now I know the problem & it's an easy fix 😌 I can swap it out in 15 minutes here at home. But I also felt happy because alternator was the FIRST suspect on my list. When I said that to my dad, he had a few other suspects to check first which made me think maybe it wasn't an alternator problem after all. But he did say that a bad alternator CAN cause a battery drain too so I didn't take that suspect completely off my list yet.

Now I can't wait till my alternator gets here; I'm so excited to drive my wagon again 😁

An alternator for $100? That's a steal, even after a core swap. Great deal, and like you said, an easy fix.
@Ontheroad $75-$120 for a remanufactured is pretty typical for here...... (AZ)

@Threepio After posting my comment I got to thinking about the last one I bought (for a friend)... eons ago, and remembered it was a new one (OEM) for a Caddy. So yeah, $100 does sound about right for a remanufactured one.

@Ontheroad yeah I saw them mostly seeling for $120-$150 but I found a brand new one on Amazon for $100 so I figured it was worth a shot. It should be here by tonight or by tomorrow afternoon.

Plus my wagon is a 2004 with very common parts so I can always find easily accessible parts for cheap 😌
