I look forward to the day when I have a place far out in the boonies well away from any big city

City life is not for me; it brings out the worst in me. Getting to and from work is like a world war dogfight twice daily.

Anytime you want to do anything you have to wade through hordes of people.

More people means stricter governance. Bullshit traffic and parking tickets, all kinds of fees and regulations and permits needed to do all kinds of shit you could just go out and do and no one would ever know out in the sticks.

I do my best to stay away from the bustle as much as I can but during these periods where I work in this particular location every damn day I feel so drained and sick-in-the-spirit. I resent my dependence on this big concrete aberration against nature.

Yes there is less to do out in the country but I don't need to be entertained; I can keep myself occupied with my own projects just fine.

My freedom is on the horizon. I get closer and crave it more every day

I totally feel this. As someone who has made the transition though? It's easy to have a romantacised view and after time, there is a missing of the city. Maybe bit enough to go back. However there are things that the romanticised view gets wrong. Things like distance. The traffic is better and I don't miss it. After awhile though the distance negated some of the charm. It becomes closer to a wash.

More than anything though ia privacy. You feel like you are going to gain a monumental amount of privacy over the city life. In many ways you do, in just as many ways you don't. Everyone will kmow your business and routine in short order. There's a privacy in yhe city of being another face in the crowd and just hiding in plain sight. That is one thing I do sometimes miss a lot. That dimished privacy comes with a boon though too in that part of it is community and a need to be there for each other.

That said there is actually much, much more to do in the sticks. Your possibilities for hobbies and shit to do is almost endless. It's just not as chic, trendy, and reliant on action and throwing money towards spectacle.

That all said I like it better over-all but if you romanticise it too much on the "I'll finally be left alone" it causes some pit falls. Because unless you're a retired hermit far out on the backroads. It isn't true and even then you're " this or that guy" when tou make it to town.

@MethDozer i appreciate your viewpoint as someone who has done what I seek to do. I will keep this in mind!

There are no perfect solutions in life; each change in course comes with a new set of problems to be navigated.

That being said, the problem set you have described sounds more appealing to me than the problem set I currently have lol. Sounds like issues that my personality is more shaped toward coping with.

My biggest concern is making a living. The main reason people don't live in the sticks is because it is hard to find work out there.

I have a trade and that makes it easier for me to get work than most, but would that save me if I moved out into the boonies? I dont know.

@Eternity nah, I get it. I'm not saying you are wrong or trying to change your mind. Just letting you know what to expect in a more clear way.

Another thing to watch out for is. You're young pick your pla e wisely because these boonies are getting developed fast and when they change away from what you originally came there for. It ruins a lot. Gentirfication of the farm and forrest us very much in vogue right now.

@MethDozer my plan is to find the absolute smallest most tucked away corner I can find so that by the time society catches up to it i will be too close to dead to care

@Eternity Start looking at trucks and hobby sized to mid sized used tractors and attachments. Fuck yeah my man
Eternity · 26-30, M
@MethDozer i bought a 4×4 last year so im halfway there lol
MethDozer · M
@Eternity the best part is you kinda need some cool toys and get to play with them but with good purpose
MethDozer · M
@Eternity I'm at a place where I like parts of both the city and the sticks.

It's the suburbs and hamlets I absolutely cannot stand, want destroyed, and would rather be homeless than live in.

@MethDozer oh yeah fuck the suburbs man. I grew up in one for a time. Sucked. Like living in a fish bowl.

I just cant do the city man. Ever seen The Hurricane with Denzel Washington? Thats what you have to do to have any kind of dick space in the city. Basically become nocturnal. Or otherwise build an extremely unorthodox schedule in which you are active while the majority are not and vice versa.
MethDozer · M
@Eternity word.
I know I don't want to live in it again full time, but I love having that footprint and being known back in my old stomping grounds. I love visiting the hood but I know that full time life isn't really for me anymore.

@Eternity You might like living out in the suburban fringe. I grew up there and while I generally think it's an unholy invention, it does a pretty good job of combining the freedom and tranquility of the rural areas with the services and anonymity of the city.
MethDozer · M
@BlueVeins Don't lie to him. It is the worst of both worlds and that is it. God that suburban fringe sucks
